Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in my first session?
Our first session is focused on getting to know you — what’s been feeling heavy, what you’d like support with, and what you hope to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out. Together, we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.

Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. I offer secure telehealth sessions for clients located in Illinois. Many people appreciate the flexibility and comfort of meeting virtually from home, while still receiving the same level of care and connection as in-person sessions.

Do you accept insurance?
Yes. SLM Counseling is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Cigna.
If you prefer to use another insurance provider, I can also provide a “superbill” for you to submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Private pay options are available as well.

What is your fee and payment policy?
Session fees vary based on service type and length. For clients using insurance, copay or coinsurance amounts are due at the time of session. Private pay clients are welcome to pay through a secure client portal. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged for the session.

How long does therapy last?
The length of therapy looks different for everyone. Some clients find a few months helpful for clarity and relief, while others choose to continue longer-term for deeper personal growth. We’ll check in regularly to make sure the pace and focus are right for you.

What kinds of issues do you work with?
I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, life transitions, self-worth struggles, and past relational wounds that may still impact the present. My goal is to create a supportive space where you can gain insight, strengthen self-compassion, and feel more grounded in your daily life.

What if I’ve had a negative therapy experience before?
It’s completely understandable to feel cautious about starting again. My approach centers on building trust and safety first. You’re always welcome to share what hasn’t felt helpful in the past so we can create a new experience that aligns with your needs.

How do I schedule a session?
You can schedule directly through our online booking page or contact me to discuss availability. Taking this step is an act of care — I’m here to make the process as simple and welcoming as possible.

Can I have a brief consultation before committing?
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask questions and see if my approach feels like a good fit. Finding the right connection matters, and this time helps you explore that before beginning therapy.
